I can't believe nobody has commented on this yet. Good, Bad & The Ugly is my all time favorite western while Shawshank is my all time favorite prison movie. I gotta go with Eastwood on this one though, it's a slightly better film.
Well, I don't see Shawshank as a masterpiece like everyone else. But there is something about it that compels me to revisit it from time to time. So although GBU is the more influential film, I'll take TSR here.

Shawshank is great, but overrated where as The Good The Bad and The Ugly deserves its praise. TGTBATU wins.

Shawshank in an absolute blow out....and I LOVE TGTBATU.....
Both build up to great endings but the atmosphere generated in GBU just edges it for me.

After rewatch I take back what I said about Shawshank. These are arguably two of the greatest films of all time, but I'm still going with Leone.

Awesome showdown as both films have diehard fans that are very adamant about their preferences. I'm no different. I stand by GBU in this contest. Shawshank is a fine movie, but GBU is just better.
