Anne Hathaway: The Catwoman latex suit was a psychological terrorist

Months ago, I was anxiously awaiting about a dozen summer movies, and they really couldnt release them fast enough for me. And then time passed and the reviews started coming in, and I began reading more and more about these movies, and Ive decided I will dub this period The Summer of Let-Downs. Prometheus sucked.

Months ago, I was anxiously awaiting about a dozen summer movies, and they really couldn’t release them fast enough for me. And then time passed and the reviews started coming in, and I began reading more and more about these movies, and I’ve decided I will dub this period “The Summer of Let-Downs”. Prometheus sucked. I didn’t even see Snow White and the Huntsman after I basically stopped caring. I know Magic Mike is going to end up being some fruity romantic comedy in which “the boy” is a male stripper-slash-woodworker or something and there probably won’t be any dong, ever. So… do I need to be focus all of my energy on The Dark Knight Rises because I know Christopher Nolan is the one dude who won’t let me down? Or will I be disappointed in the end, because I’m putting all of my proverbial eggs in one basket? Unknown.

Anyway, TDKR comes out July 20, almost exactly one month from now. So the publicity campaigns are now going to begin in earnest. Thus, Anne Hathaway scored the cover of Allure Magazine. Surely she rates a more important magazine cover than Allure? Maybe that’s coming for the August issues? Here are some highlights from Anne’s interview:

On her dramatic weight loss for her role in ‘Les Miserables’: “I’m doing some crazy weight stuff right now… I’m on day six of detox …this diet makes me break out, so I love that. Nothing like living on hummus and radishes and then being all like ‘And I got a pimple’ Yeah.”

On nudity in acting: “I’m as vain as the next girl, but I think it’s my job to show people as they live, and nudity is a part of life.”

On passing up on a role in ‘Knocked Up’ due to an explicit birth scene: “I thought that [director] Judd [Apatow] was right to include the shot. I didn’t disagree with the shot… My issue with it was that having not experienced motherhood myself, I didn’t know how I was gonna feel on the other side about giving birth.”

On her Catwoman costume: “[It was] a psychological terrorist… the suit, thoughts of my suit, changing my life so I would fit into that suit… it dominated my year. I went into the gym for ten months and didn’t come out.”

I like how dry Annie is – “Nothing like living on hummus and radishes and then being all like ‘And I got a pimple’ Yeah.” I find her so refreshing – she’s not all “WOE IS ME, I am TRANSFORMING for my craft!!” Nor is she underplaying it unconvincingly. Being on a diet sucks. Detoxing sucks. Zits suck. But Anne does it anyway, because she’s a pro.

Oh, and I had no idea Anne was up for the lead in Knocked Up! That would have been a completely different movie with Anne. I wonder what she did instead? Looking it up… well, she did Becoming Jane in the spring of 2006, and Knocked Up filmed in May 2006. So… yeah, Anne probably made the right call. I liked Knocked Up, but I’m not sure how good Anne would have been in it.
